The application period for Tennessee volunteer fire departments to apply for grant funding totaling $1 million opened Tuesday.
The Volunteer Firefighter Equipment and Training Grant Program legislation passed in 2019 will provide volunteer fire departments with grants allowing them to better provide to their communities. During the first years of the program, 41 volunteer departments have received $500,000 in grants.
In 2022, agencies will be able to apply for $1 million in grants to assist fire department, according to News 4 Nashville.
Tennessee State Fire Marshal (TSFM) and Tennessee Department of Commerce (TDCI) and Insurance Commissioner Carter Lawrence said, “We are grateful for the leadership of Governor Bill Lee and the General Assembly who increased the amount of funding to $1 million in order to help provide more support to Tennessee volunteer departments and their communities.”
Eligible departments hoping to receive a grant must apply to the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance and Tennessee State Fire Marshal’s Office.
