San Miguel firefighter Eric Hille has started an effort on Facebook to rally equipment and firefighters to provide a peacekeeping mission in the Ukraine.

Initial efforts by Hille were to send resource to Ukraine firefighters. After some thought, he realized rather than just sending equipment, he would go to the Ukraine to help, KFMB CBS 8 reported.

Hille, an Army veteran who has been on multiple deployments in hostile countries told CBS 8, "If I'm the one organizing it, I'm going to be the first one to step foot in country."

Since posting his call for assistance, firefighters from all over have emailed him asking to help. He currently has over 60 people signed up.

Hille attempted to raise funds through GoFundMe but it was shut down. Hille said in a Facebook post that GoFundMe said the account was "trying to fund a foreign military or foreign fighting force.”

A new donation source has been established through Chase Bank via Zelle @ usmxffunited2021. The group is hoping to leave April 4 and are expected to be in Ukraine for approximately 14 days.

Ukrainian firefighters efforts can be viewed on the Department of the State Emergency Service of Ukraine in Kyiv Facebook page.
