IN Firefighters Reunited with Police Officer They Saved
Indianapolis firefighters had an emotional reunion with Indianapolis police officer Thomas Mangan whose life they saved when he was shot in the line of duty on Feb. 27.
Firefighters working at Fire Station 3 were only a few blocks from where Mangan was shot and critically injured. The fire crew acted fast and transported Mangan to the hospital in their firetruck, WTHR 13 reported.
The gunshot caused extensive damage to Mangan’s throat area. Due to the injury, Mangan may not be able to speak, swallow, or breathe normally again, according to police officials.
In a statement posted to IMPD News Facebook page, Mangan said, “Firstly, I am unable to cry audibly. Instead, tears stream my face and my throat swells causing me to choke and it feels hard to breath. Secondly, I can only see clearly 1 foot in front of me.”
Firefighters were able to meet with Mangan and his wife Emory to spend some time together at their home. “Over coffee and banana bread, lots of questions were asked and answered - giving both sides some much needed closure.” the fire department posted on their Facebook page.
Mangan told the firefighters he has never been to a fire station and plans on making a visit to Station 3 at a later date.
