Former IL Chief Loses Battle with Cancer

Mar. 31—GODFREY — Friends and colleagues are fondly remembering Ed McBride, former assistant fire chief in Godfrey.
Following a lengthy battle with cancer, McBride, 57 died at his home on Wednesday. Arrangements are pending.
"Ed fought a courageous battle with duty related cancer for the past few years," the fire department posted on its Facebook page. "Members of the fire department, family and friends assembled at his home...to bring him home from the hospital. Ed passed shortly after arriving."
The Alton native served in the U.S. Navy and retired as assistant chief for the Godfrey Fire Department.
He is survived by his wife, Rebecca, and their two daughters.
A celebration of life service is planned noon to 5 p.m. Sunday at the Wood River Moose. Memorials may be made to the Godfrey Fire Department; Gent Funeral Home in Alton is in charge of arrangements and there is an online guestbook at www.gentfuneralhome.com.
