KS FF Placed on Leave Amid Text Message Investigation

A Wichita firefighter is on administrative leave as the department conducts an investigation into alleged racist, sexist and homophobic text messages.

The City of Wichita Fire Department has placed a firefighter on administrative leave while they investigate racist, sexist and homophobic text messages involving Wichita police officers.

Fire Chief Tammy Snow was notified on April 22 about the involvement of the firefighter in the investigation. The firefighter was put on administrative leave the same day, KWCH 12 reported.

Information regarding the investigation came up during a Citizens Review board meeting in March.

The information was discovered during an investigation into allegations of domestic violence involving a Sedgwick County Sheriff Deputy by the Wichita Police Department.

During the investigation, under warrant, the deputies cell phone was seized and that’s when the text messages and photos described as “unbecoming of an officer” were discovered.
