Next year, Madison Township will offer new part-time firefighters $11 an hour.
The revised pay scale also raises the added pay for part-time paramedics by 25 cents to $2.25 per hour, The Mansfield News Journal reported.
“To be honest, it’s still very hard to find part timers,” Fire Chief Ken Justus said. “This may give us a couple more people, but I don’t think it’s going to be a solution to the problem.”
He noted that something also needs to happen as current part-timers are only paid $10 an hour.
During his administrative report, Justus told the board that five firefighters he provided information for at the previous trustees’ meeting are being sent for medical and background checks.
Officials approved his request for hiring another person, a trained firefighter who is in EMT class.
