California City, CA, Fire Chief Fired after Voters' Decision

March 28, 2024
As voters failed to pass a special parcel tax, Chief Jeremy Kosick was terminated.

The California City fire chief has been fired. There are no investigations underway or allegations of mismanagement.

Fire Chief Jeremy Kosick lost his job because of what happened or didn't happen at the polls earlier this month.

Since voters didn't approve a special parcel tax, Kosick and City Clerk Socorro Chavez were fired as the city faces a bleak financial future, KERO reported.

“Because Measure A not passing, there have been some hard decisions directed by the council to cut the budget. And I’m responsible in carrying out their wishes,” explained Latisha Lamberth, acting city manager.

The fire chief’s salary was $250,000 annually while the city clerk was making  $140,000 per year.

Kosick could not be reached for comment.

When the current tax ends in June, the city is will lose more than $5 million in projected revenue which funds to general services, including fire and police departments.

More cuts are expected.
