A Canyon Lake firefighter was terminated after posting comments about activist Charlie Kirk's shooting on social media.
Danielle Meyers was fired for "inappropriate social media activity," Comal County Emergency Service District No. 3 Fire Chief Robert Mikel II wrote in a release, according to Spectrum Local News.
The fire district did not share what Meyers had written, but Mikel called her actions "unacceptable."
She was placed on leave as the district looked into the allegations of the post that was captured in screenshots before it was deleted, the district said.
“Our community must have confidence that those who serve them will conduct themselves with the highest standards of professionalism both on and off duty,” the release said. “When actions compromise that trust, we have an obligation to act.
"As of [Monday,] Ms. Meyers is no longer employed with the department," News4SanAntonio.com reported that the department wrote. "While we are not responsible for an employee's private posts and protected speech by the employee's First Amendment rights under the United States Constitution, we still deem this conduct unacceptable."
Earlier this week, Cleveland's fire chief, Anthony Luke, was placed on leave after sharing a political cartoon related to the Kirk shooting on social media. Luke is among three public safety employees in Cleveland being investigated by the city for their social media postings.
Nashville and New Orleans were also investigating social media activity by their members.
