Former Syracuse, NY, Firefighter Faces Additional Child Rape Charges

After an internal investigation, Syracuse fire officials terminated Jeremy W. Warters, 25, accused of raping a victim under 17.

Syracuse, N.Y. ― A former Syracuse firefighter faces four additional charges of third-degree rape of a minor.

Jeremy W. Warters, 25, appeared in court Tuesday to be arraigned on a seven-count indictment.

Warters is accused of raping a victim under the age of 17.

He was initially arrested on July 28 and charged with two counts of third-degree rape and one count of endangering the welfare of a child.

Now, he faces four additional charges of raping the same victim, prosecutor Stephanie Martin-Thom said.

Martin-Thom told the court Tuesday she has not made a plea offer to Warters.

She said the indictment was delayed for Warters to consider whether he would accept a felony plea.

Warters’ attorney, Stuart Larose, pleaded not guilty to the charges on his behalf. Warters spoke only to confirm he understood he must return to court as required, or risk a bench warrant being issued.

After posting $5,000 bail, Warters was released from the Onondaga County Justice Center jail within 24 hours of his arrest.

Each of the six counts of third-degree rape could carry a maximum sentence of four years. Those sentences could run consecutively, with a maximum of 24 years.

Following an internal investigation by the Syracuse Fire Department, Warters was fired on Sept. 1. The department substantiated charges of misconduct and violations of its general orders, rules and regulations, Syracuse Fire Chief Michael Monds said.

The chief did not specify which rules were violated or what the investigation uncovered.

Warters joined the department after graduating from the fire department’s five-month training academy in May 2025, according to Syracuse.com | The Post-Standard archives.

He also worked as an assistant head coach at The Warrior Factory Syracuse from 2019 to 2025, according to Warters’ Facebook profile.

The Warrior Factory is an indoor training and obstacle gym in Camillus designed for children, teens and adults who want to try obstacles similar to those seen on “American Ninja Warrior.”

Warters competed on NBC’s “American Ninja Warrior” show in 2022.

He is scheduled to return to court on Nov. 23.
