NJ Fire Company Closing Due to Staffing Shortage

Winslow Township was forced to close its Cedar Brook Fire Station after staffing levels fell below acceptable numbers.

The Cedar Brook Fire Station in Winslow Township was forced to halt operations after staffing levels fell below acceptable numbers to maintain emergency services.

Officials recently held a community meeting to discuss the closure of the station that’s been in operation since 1925.

Official told the community emergency services will still be provided, but response times may be longer as calls will be handled by the cities other five fire stations, Fox 29 reported.

Fire officials highlighted the national crisis with recruiting and maintaining of volunteer firefighters.

Officials would like to have more paid or volunteer members on the department but realize the financial obligation that comes with adding additional staff.

The department is currently using a combination of career firefighters, on-duty volunteer firefighters and traditional come-from-home volunteers to address the calls for service during the closure, according to a press release by the Winslow Township Fire Department.
