FL Firefighter 'Relieved of Duty' After Slugging Handcuffed Patient

Dec. 13, 2022
The City of Miami Fire Rescue firefighter was immediately removed from duty after the October incident at a local hospital.

A City of Miami firefighter was relieved of duty in October after he punched a handcuffed patient in a hospital.

Video of the incident, which was sent to WPLG, shows the firefighter slugging the agitated patient inside Jackson Memorial Hospital.

The man becomes more upset while talking to the officers. And, that's when the firefighter lunges at him. Officers struggled to stop the incident as the cot rolls away.

The station has not learned the identity of the firefighter or the victim.

In a statement, City of Miami Fire Rescue said: “When this incident occurred, the individual was immediately Relieved of Duty. Our department is conducting an administrative investigation while this individual remains in a Relieved of Duty status.”
