Friday Safety Chat

April 29, 2011

I stumbled upon a link to the U.S. Fire Administration’s Kids Fire Safety on the Ready.gov website a little while ago and wanted to share with you.

In this page, FEMA, the U.S. Fire Administration, and the National Commission on Children and Disasters, teamed up to call families and communities to action to keep our nation’s children safe, and through the site they are encouraging families to take simple steps to prevent fires and to protect children.  The page includes safety tips and a widget to put on your organization’s website to direct traffic to the Kids Fire Safety page.

The fire safety dogs and I will be hosting yet another live stream safety chat on Sparkles’ Safety Spot this coming Tuesday at 7:00 p.m. CST on SparklesTV. We hope that you can join us! Hopefully you will get a few tips to help with your fire safety programming, such as the use of educationally sound fire safety messaging, songs and other fun educationally sound methods that you are welcome to use in your programming.

Attached is one of the latest pictures of Siren (the Fire Safety Dog), as we were signing up to do a community paws walk. As many of you may know, Siren is in training to become a fire safety dog, just like his predecessor, Sparkles. We take advantage of every opportunity to socialize Siren in various types of settings, while in the meantime, sharing the fire safety message.

Do you attend community events to help share the fire safety message? Please share what you do to help build community relations and to keep those in your community safe. We’d love to hear what you do!

Speaking of fire safety, what’s new with your fire safety efforts? Do you have a program or idea to share with the readers of the Playing it Safe blog? If so, we’d love to hear from you! Please send a note to [email protected] with Playing it Safe blog in the subject line.

Until next time, stay safe!
