Community Risk Reduction (CRR) Week is set for Jan. 19–25, 2026, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr.'s National Day of Service. The Institution of Fire Engineers USA Branch's Vision 20/20 project is hosting the week, highlighting the fire service's dedication to community safety.

The fire department's goal to safeguard communities is strongly aligned with Dr. King's values of service, sacrifice, and compassion.

Vision 20/20 was established in 2008 and brought together top fire service professionals to identify important gaps in fire safety and create evidence-based solutions. Vision 20/20 created CRR Week as a special platform for putting these tactics into practice at fire departments around the country after realizing the need to increase awareness and adoption of Community Risk Reduction throughout the fire service.

CRR is a data-driven approach that identifies and ranks local risks. Then, resources like emergency response and prevention are strategically and integratedly invested to lessen their incidence and impact on the community and responders.

The purpose of CRR Week is to raise awareness within the fire service about the value of Community Risk Reduction and how any fire station may use tried-and-true tactics to improve community and employee safety.

The Five E's—Education, Engineering, Enforcement, Economic Incentives, and Emergency Response—are five essential intervention tactics that Vision 20/20 systematically alternates focus on each year. The organization's dedication to thorough CRR coverage is shown in this year's emphasis on emergency response. To help agencies start and carry out the community risk reduction process, new "Emergency Response" tools have been introduced to the CRR Toolkit.

The free availability of all toolkit resources removes obstacles to CRR implementation for fire departments of all sizes. Videos, podcasts, data tools, online guides, risk assessments, online forums, a fire safety materials generator, the home safety visit app, and instructional courses are just a few of the many free resources available to participants. The CRR Week website provides easy access to these resources. A customisable Model Proclamation that community leaders can modify to raise awareness of CRR in their jurisdictions is another resource, as is a Participant Patch Wall where departments can showcase their patches, logos, and plans for CRR Week.

Departments are free to choose a structure that best fits their needs and available resources, even though it is advised that each day concentrate on a particular E.

Additionally, Vision 20/20 offers cutting-edge CRR training resources on the CRR Academy. To access these courses, fire department professionals are urged to create a free account. Participants are also urged to visit CRR Champions to sign the commitment to actively seek opportunities to include CRR into their service delivery and interventions.

In order to maximize community effect during this crucial week of awareness and action, fire departments are urged to start preparing their CRR Week efforts now.
