Home Fire Sprinkler Week 2026 Announced
The dates of Home Fire Sprinkler Week are set for May 10–16, 2026. North American fire departments and safety advocates will present compelling messages about how home fires may turn lethal in less than two minutes and how fire sprinklers significantly reduce property loss while protecting residents and responders from harm and death.
Compared to 40 years ago, home fires have changed significantly. Compared to the natural fiber and wood-heavy furnishings that were popular decades ago, modern home furnishings like synthetic furniture, polyurethane foam, plastics, and other manufactured materials burn very quickly and emit extremely poisonous, rapidly spreading smoke. Fast-growing home fires are caused by the widespread use of electronics and lithium-ion batteries. The window of opportunity for identification and escape is significantly reduced because a house fire can turn lethal in as little as two minutes.
The only technology that can automatically prevent a fire from becoming fatal is fire sprinklers. The heat from a fire activates each sprinkler separately, so only the sprinkler nearest to the fire turns on. When the fire is small, water is sprayed on it to prevent it from spreading and producing hazardous smoke, allowing people to safely flee. Compared to firefighter hoses, fire sprinklers consume a lot less water and have a much smaller environmental impact.
Fire departments will share daily messages about fire sprinklers on social media and take part in the Home Fire Sprinkler Coalition's (HFSC) digital campaign throughout the week.
Additionally, a lot of fire departments will host community outreach events that feature dramatic live fire displays and demonstrations.
The daily themes are:
- Monday - Fires Are Fast, Sprinklers Are Faster
- Tuesday - The Cost to Communities Without Fire Sprinklers
- Wednesday - Fire Sprinklers Are Part of a Fire-Safe Community
- Thursday - It’s Easy to Live with Home Fire Sprinklers
- Friday - Protect What You Value Most
The HFSC Studio offers a wealth of resources to assist participants in producing materials for community outreach. Departments can create their own flyers, posters, and social media cards, broadcast messages on social media, make films, issue personalized proclamations, and create educational resources with this user-friendly web platform.
“Home Fire Sprinkler Week is a great opportunity for us to bring together our digital voices and amplify the message of the tremendous benefits of fire sprinklers across our continent,” said Lorraine Carli, NFPA vice president of Outreach and Advocacy and president of the HFSC.
“Today’s homebuyers are savvy about safety and when they learn about fire sprinklers, they want them. The virtual reality, digital and other resources underscore not just that we can do better, they underscore exactly how to do better.”
