Atlanta Firefighters Charged with Alleged Arson Scheme

June 12, 2025
Fire investigators allege the Atlanta firefighter enlisted his captain to burn a car to collect insurance, court records showed.

An Atlanta firefighter and his captain have been arrested in connection with an alleged scheme to collect insurance.

Following an extensive investigation, Firefighter Alvin Cox and Capt. Adrian Strickland were both arrested.

The two, assigned to Station 10, are accused of 'orchestrating' a fire in 2023 that destroyed a Hyundai Elantra, according to Fox5.

Cox's story to police about his vehicle being stolen started to be questioned when a search of the city's camera system came up empty.

Fire investigators also determined that the captain accessed reports about the car fire more than a dozen times. Cellphone data reportedly placed him near where the burning vehicle was found, according to court records.
