A woman was killed and a man was injured in a house explosion Saturday in Detroit.
The Detroit Fire Department responded to the explosion on McCormick Street near Moross Road on the city's east side at approximately 4 p.m. Saturday, according to a statement from the department.
A 46-year-old man was burned in the explosion. He was transported to Detroit Medical Center's Detroit Receiving Hospital and is in critical but stable condition.
The man told authorities a relative was in the home with him at the time of the explosion. Fire fighters and Michigan State Police troopers searched the home and found a woman's body underneath the rubble.
Both houses on either side of the home were damaged by the explosion, as was a neighboring garage. One of the neighboring homes was vacant. The other was occupied and will be inspected. The resident of that home was provided alternative housing.
DTE Energy was called to the scene to "turn off electric and natural gas service to help make the site safe," the utility company said in a statement.
"Testing was conducted at the incident site and neighboring homes, and no natural gas leaks were detected," DTE said.
The cause of the explosion is unknown. The fire department, DTE Energy and other utilities are investigating the explosion.
