Two Teens Face Multiple Charges for Fire that Gutted Allentown, PA, Factory
Authorities announced Friday the arrests of two juveniles on arson and related charges in Wednesday night’s massive fire that gutted a former furniture factory and displaced dozens of neighboring residents.
The two were being held in juvenile detention and face charges including arson, reckless endangerment, conspiracy and causing a catastrophe, Lehigh County District Attorney Gavin Holihan and Allentown Police Chief Charles Roca announced.
One firefighter was injured during the response, which grew to six alarms, bringing in manpower and trucks from surrounding communities.
Several properties on North Front Street were destroyed in the blaze, according to Holihan’s office.
Authorities were not immediately identifying the juveniles’ names or releasing further information.
“The investigation remains ongoing,” a news release from Holihan and Roca stated. “We would also like to recognize the efforts of many agencies that helped with this investigation including Allentown Fire Department; Allentown Police; the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives; as well as community fire departments and other agencies offering assistance to affected residents.”
United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley on Friday announced an emergency relief fund to help the 20 adults and six children displaced from their homes by the fire.
