A Dartmouth resident was seriously injured and one of their dogs was killed when their house exploded early Tuesday morning, according to police.

Multiple 911 calls reported the explosion at 20 Sagamore Drive shortly before 1 a.m., Dartmouth police said in a press release. Dartmouth firefighters, police and paramedics responded and discovered heavy fire conditions, as well as explosions coming from the home’s garage.

All of the home’s residents fled the house before first-responders arrived, police said. One of them was taken to a Rhode Island hospital to be treated for burns believed to be serious but not life-threatening.

Three dogs were inside the home at the time of the explosion, police said. One was declared dead at the scene, another was taken to a veterinarian for emergency treatment and the third was found uninjured Tuesday morning after initially going missing.

Massachusetts State Police Bomb Squad technicians also responded to the home to try to determine what caused the explosion, Dartmouth police said. The State Fire Marshal’s Office and Dartmouth police and firefighters are investigating the incident.

No further information has been released.
