Two Dunedin firefighters rescued an elderly man from a house fire Tuesday night.
While other firefighters across the country may have done the same thing, this one was different.
Firefighters Makayla Bowers and AJ Gonzales showed up in a medic unit. After donning their gear, they grabbed the three-gallon water can they carry on the truck, Fox 13 reported.
Learning from Steve Korossy that he was unable to get the man out, the two went inside the burning house.
Debris fell on Bowers as they made their way through the house, located the victim and brought him out.
He was transported to a hospital for treatment.
Korossy and his daughter were driving by the house when they saw the smoke. After calling 9-1-1, he crawled into the garage and urged the man to come to him. It appeared to work at first, but then the victim went the other way.
Meanwhile, his daughter located an elderly dog in the backyard.
Deputy Fire Chief Steve Santana called it a perfect storm as most medic units don't carry water cans.
He praised the crew for their quick actions.
