"It's a very heroic thing," Lawrence, MA, Fire Chief Says about Rescue

A Lawrence firefighter rescued a man from a third-floor window during a house fire.

A Lawrence firefighter pulled a man out of a third-floor window as flames spread to three multi-family houses Sunday afternoon..

"Our crews did an excellent job by spotting him up in the window. He had smoke coming out all around him. He was waving for help. Our crews did a great job getting a ladder up to him. It's a very heroic thing and we take our hats off him because he did an excellent job," Lawrence Fire Chief Patrick Delaney told WBZ.

Residents who called 9-1-1 said the fire had spread to multiple houses.

Aerial ladders were set up on various sides of the buildings during the operation.

The cause is under investigation.
