Listen: Birmingham, AL, Firefighters Tackle Apartment Fire

This was the second time in two months, Birmingham firefighters faced heavy fire at the complex.

Firefighters will remain on the scene of a Birmingham apartment complex throughout the day after the massive Tuesday night fire at 2700 Apartments.

The blaze was the second in just two months at the complex. In August, the 14 units were destroyed by fire and have been empty since then.

Birmingham Fire and Rescue Service was dispatched at 8:35 p.m. Tuesday to the strip of apartment units on Beacon Crest Lane in the Glen Iris area.

Additional crews were brought in to help, and the fire was reported under control at 11:50 p.m.

The apartments were vacant and no injuries were reported.

Reynolds said firefighters will rotate throughout Wednesday to check for hot spots.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

The previous fire happened Sunday, Aug. 9. The initial report was that lightning had sparked that fire but officials later said there was no evidence to support that theory.

Multiple people were displaced after the August blaze.
