Dec. 01--A fire at an assisted living facility in Springettsbury Township displaced about 20 residents Wednesday night.

Firefighters responded to Autumn House East in the 2600 block of East Market Street around 6:15 p.m. for a report of smoke in the building, said John Woods, battalion chief with York Area United Fire and Rescue.

Firefighters found a fire in the ceiling area of the B wing, Woods said. They got it under control within five minutes of arrival.

An investigation showed the cause to be electrical, Woods said.

No one was injured. The damage is estimated at $25,000, he said.

The residents had been evacuated from the area before firefighters arrived.

Eight residents were moved to Autumn House West, four went home with family and the rest were relocated within the east facility, said Steve Barley, who owns the facility with his wife, Tami.

The staff responded as they were trained to do during the emergency, and many came in to help the residents get settled, he said.

"The staff was incredible," Barley said. "It went as smoothly as we could have hoped."

Steve Barley said he hopes the residents can move back into the B wing within several weeks.
