Fire Destroys City-Owned Building in Ohio

Nov. 22--Arson investigators Tuesday morning were working the scene of a fire that destroyed a vacant city-owned commercial building near downtown Toledo overnight, authorities said. Fire crews arrived about 12:24 a.m., saw heavy smoke and fire coming from the single-story building at 317 18th St., and attacked the blaze. Firefighters extinguished the blaze by 4:11 a.m., at which time they left the scene, according to the Toledo fire department.

Fire crews arrived about 12:24 a.m., saw heavy smoke and fire coming from the single-story building at 317 18th St., and attacked the blaze. Firefighters extinguished the blaze by 4:11 a.m., at which time they left the scene, according to the Toledo fire department.

The building, which was a total loss, was scheduled for demolition later in the morning. Damage was estimated at $101,900, according to the fire report.

The cause of the fire was under investigation.

The Lucas County Auditor's Web site lists the city of Toledo as the owner.

The building previously was owned by the Lucas County Land Reutilization Corp. The Web site does not list the year the structure was built.
