Nov. 21--A building that had been used as a manufacturing facility in northern Rowan County was destroyed Sunday night by a fire that sent flames soaring into the sky.

No injuries were reported in the blaze at a building on U.S. 29 North in Spencer, a short distance south of the Davidson County line.

Fire officials in Spencer say the fire was reported about 10:45 p.m. At one point, flames reportedly were 75 feet in the air, and the blaze could be seen across parts of northern Rowan County.

Authorities say the building was abandoned and had not been in commercial use for about a decade. Officials said they took up a defensive position, working to prevent it from spreading.

It took a crew of 75 firefighters about two hours to control the blaze.

Authorities will work today to determine the cause.
