Nov. 20--MEDFORD -- A Taylor County couple died as the result of a fire that started behind a garage, spread to the structure and then their home, according to Sheriff Bruce Daniels.
Eric M. Motte, 82, was pronounced dead at his town of Medford home at W6661 Perkinstown Ave., Friday. His wife, Marie Motte, 55, died of her injuries Saturday after being airlifted to a hospital.
According to information released by Daniels:
The Taylor County Dispatch Center received a 911 call at about 5:50 p.m. Friday reporting a garage fire at the Mottes' home.
Deputies and the Medford Fire Department responded and found a detached garage was fully engulfed in flames, and the fire had spread to the home.
The initial investigation by the fire and sheriff's departments determined that a set fire intended to burn a rubbish pile had spread to the adjacent garage and then the house.
No foul play is suspected in the incident.
