Nov. 06--COVENTRY -- At least one person has died and two other were seriously injured after an explosion, possibly of a propane tank, destroyed a house on Old Oak Trail.
Witnesses reported a big explosion about 7:20 p.m., followed by a secondary explosion. Residents were evacuated from the immediate neighborhood.
The witnesses said that a man lived in the home and that his parents were visiting at the time of the explosion.
According to residents of the area, power knocked out by the Oct. 28 snowstorm had been restored in the neighborhood yesterday.
Many residents along Coventry Lake felt the explosion. Kate Alexander, who lives more than a mile from the scene, said a shock wave from the explosion hit her house. Witnesses reported a debris field 100 yards from the house where the explosion took place. "I thought a tree had fallen on our house," she said. "It was scary."
Crews from Coventry Volunteer Fire Association, Bolton, Lebanon and Columbia responded to the development near Coventry Lake. More than 100 emergency workers were on the scene.
A staging area for Life Star was set up at Captain Nathan Hale Middle School.
