DONEGAL, Pa.
--
Firefighters rushed to control a massive fire that broke out at a lumberyard in Donegal Township Saturday morning.
Officials said the blaze started at about 9:30 a.m. when several propane tanks on Babcock Lumbers property exploded.
Authorities said the storage building held lumber and more than 20 propane tanks, all of which exploded.
The lumberyard is not open for business on Saturdays, so no employees were on the scene except for one security guard, police said.
The building was covered with flames when fire crews arrived, said Assistant Fire Chief Rich Umbaugh of Chestnut Ridge Volunteer Fire Department.
Tom Shaffer lives down the street from the yard and said the bangs were intense.
"The first one was the loudest," Shaffer said. "Then after that, you heard 20 or so blow up."
No injuries were reported in the blaze.
Fire marshals are investigating the cause of the fire.
