Nov. 01--A Forestville man was badly burned early Tuesday in an apparent attempt to suppress a fire that ended up gutting much of the house in which he and three others lived, fire officials said.
The man suffered burns on his hands and face and was taken by ambulance to Santa Rosa Memorial Hospital, though it did not appear his injuries were life-threatening, officials said.
Details and the man's name were not immediately available Tuesday morning.
The fire on Ogburn Lane near Old River Road was reported shortly after 1 a.m. after starting on a front porch, Forestville Fire Chief Dan Northern said.
The cause remained unknown, but firefighters believe it was ignited by something on an end table next to a couch on the porch that disappeared in the blaze, he said.
"A neighbor said it took seven to 10 minutes for the fire to go from the front porch all the way to the back of the house," gutting the top floor, Northern said.
A dog perished in the fire, he said.
The home was owned by a woman named Kara Hatcher who lived there with her son and two roommates, one of whom was burned, Northern said.
The fire also brought down power lines, emergency dispatchers said.
