Oct. 30--A fire that started Sunday morning at Momper Insulation continues to be battled in the afternoon by members of the Fort Wayne Fire Department.
The fire was reported around 11:30 a.m. at the insulation company, 2431 W. Main St., which is across from Lindenwood Cemetery. Officers from the Fort Wayne Police Department have closed the 2400 block of West Main at least all the way to Leesburg Road, according to News-Sentinel staff reporter Ellie Bogue, while traffic is bumper-to-bumper on West Jefferson Boulevard as onlookers try to get a look at the scene.
The fire was being combated by numerous fire units, including three ladder trucks, Bogue reports. The fire had been producing thick, black smoke but that had turned into a lighter smoke as the afternoon wore on.
There have been some evacuations in the area, due to the smoke. Bogue also reports SweetCars, the luxury car lot at 2404 W. Jefferson Blvd., has moved all of its cars from that location.
Matt Momper of Momper Insulation spoke to Fort Wayne Newspapers and said that, despite the devastating fire, the business will be able to meet the needs of its contracted customers on Monday morning. The company is having equipment and supplies shipped by truck from other locations and will be able to stage those materials in other warehouses locally.
Customers will also be able to reach the business by phone during its normal hours of operation, Momper said.
