Fifty Cows Perish in Minnesota Barn Fire

Oct. 01--SPRING HILL -- About 50 cows died early Friday in a barn fire in Spring Hill Township. Firefighters were called at 2:08 a.m. to 28714-363rd Ave. When Stearns County deputies arrived, a large barn was fully engulfed. The barn had 75 dairy cows in it, and 20-25 of them got out unharmed, Stearns County Sheriff John Sanner said. The remaining cows died, and the barn was a total loss. The total damage amount is still being determined, but Sanner said it will be more than $100,000.

Lake Henry, Elrosa and Belgrade fire departments put out the fire.

Daniel Alvin Welle, 48, of Spring Hill owns the property.
