Dec. 03--A stable fire in northwest Harris County early today killed 11 horses, destroyed one building and damaged several other structures, officials said.
The fire broke out at about 4:30 a.m. at a stable in the 2800 block of Spears Road near Walters Road in northwest Harris County, according to the Harris County Fire Marshal's Office.

The fire broke out at about 4:30 a.m. at a stable in the 2800 block of Spears Road near Walters Road in northwest Harris County, according to the Harris County Fire Marshal's Office.
"Our investigation is still ongoing for the exact cause, but fire crews from Little York Fire Department were able to rescue four horses that were trapped in one of the buildings," Lt. Mitch Weston of the fire marshal's office said in a news release.
One injured horse was taken to an animal hospital for treatment and a veterinarian on scene treated others for smoke inhalation and minor injuries, according to news reports.
Crews from Little York Volunteer Fire Department and other departments responded, a Little York volunteer said.
