Two Jump From Second-Floor in Wash. Fire

OLYMPIA, Wash. -- Two people who lived in a home in Olympia that caught fire early Monday escaped the flames by jumping from a second-floor window. The Olympia Fire Department said that at 2:03 a.m., firefighters responded to a house fire in the 1300 block of Lybarger Street Southeast to find the house totally involved in flames. Firefighters said they fought the flames from the outside and kept the fire from spreading to nearby trees and homes. The fire was brought under control at about 3:35 a.m.

Two people who lived in a home in Olympia that caught fire early Monday escaped the flames by jumping from a second-floor window.

The Olympia Fire Department said that at 2:03 a.m., firefighters responded to a house fire in the 1300 block of Lybarger Street Southeast to find the house totally involved in flames.

Firefighters said they fought the flames from the outside and kept the fire from spreading to nearby trees and homes. The fire was brought under control at about 3:35 a.m.

Additional crews from Lacey and Fire District 3 helped fight the fire.

Though the cause of the fire is not yet known, the blaze appears to have started in the back of the home, fire officials said.

The building is a total loss, with damage estimated at $175,000.

No one was hurt.
