MILWAUKEE
--
Five people were taken to the hospital Sunday morning after fire ripped through their Breezy Point Road home in Wind Lake.
"I'm not that far away, (but) by the time I came down, flames were already out of the roof," said Wind Lake Fire Department Chief Rob Robins.
Crews said the flames also threatened to burn a neighboring home.
"They were going through their own things. To come over (our house) and ring the bell is very thoughtful and good thinking on their part," said neighbor Nick Hirsch.
Because of the neighbors' actions, Nick Hirsch's home was spared.
But the people renting the home for the week had to go to the hospital as six different fire departments battled the blaze.
"There were five occupants in the house. All five got out and one was treated for smoke inhalation. All five were transported (to a hospital) as a precaution," Robins said
Investigators sifting through the debris said they are now focused on the center of the home where they believe the fire first started.
