COBB COUNTY, Ga. --
Fire at plant inside a Cobb County industrial area sent a plume of smoke towering over Cobb County on Tuesday afternoon.
Cobb County firefighters told Channel 2’s Ross Cavitt they were in defensive mode as soon as they arrived at Sinergy Elastomers on Mountain Industrial Boulevard, off Cobb Parkway.
News Chopper 2 showed heavy black smoke and some flames coming from the warehouse as Cobb County firefighters sprayed water inside the building.
A witness told Cavitt he heard explosions from inside the warehouse. Officials said no one was injured, but they did evacuate several businesses around the scene of the fire.
Cobb County Hazmat crews were called to the fire, official said. Cavitt said emergency crews were working to contain a chemical resin known as Rhodorsil. An Internet search showed the company produced plastics.
Cavitt said the intense heat was proving to be difficult for firefighters and other firefighters were brought in to help rotate crews every ten minutes.
