BRENTWOOD, Tenn. --
The Brentwood Fire Department has been battling a fire at country star Trace Adkins' house on Millsford Court in the Bon Brook subdivision since about 3 p.m. Saturday afternoon.
Adkins' wife, Rhonda, told Channel 4 News' Jimmy Carter that everyone got out safe, including their family dog, thanks to a neighbor.
The nanny and children were in the home at the time of the fire, but Rhonda said because the family had a fire plan in place, the children and nanny ran outside to a tree.
A neighbor saw the fire and rushed over to save the family dog. The dog, being scared, bit the neighbor, who had to go to the hospital. He is expected to recover.
Rhoda said she was not at home at the time but was called and told about the fire. Trace Adkins is currently on his way to Alaska, and his wife said he didn't know about the fire as of 6 p.m. Saturday.
Brentwood Fire Chief Brian Goss told Channel 4 News' Caroline Moses the fire started in the garage and that firefighters are in the cleanup stage as of 6:30 p.m. Saturday.
Fire crews will be there most of the evening and into the night Saturday, according to Goss. He said because the fire reached the attic, it spread quickly and was hard to contain.
The family had a lot of belongings in the basement. The fire did not reach the basement, but water did.
The cause of the fire is not known, but the nanny said she heard a spark and that's what prompted her and the children to run outside. Goss said the fire may have started in the garage.
