DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. --
A fire destroyed a Daytona Beach warehouse that's part of NASCAR history.
Officials said chemicals and old tires helped fuel the flames at the former Smokey Yunick car repair warehouse on Riverside Drive.
The warehouse was used in the past to build engines for NASCAR.
The fire started just after 7:30pm Monday. Fire crews were finally able to get the blaze under control late Monday night.
Because the historic building had an old tin and wood roof, firefighters had to attack the flames from the outside. The roof eventually collapsed.
No one was inside the building at the time.
Firefighters are now watching piles of debris for hot spots. State Fire Marshals have also been called in to investigate what started the fire.
