N.C. Arson Suspect Described as Young Boy
GREENSBORO, N.C. --
The suspect in a fire at the Ashebrook Pointe Apartments on Vanstory Street on Sunday morning is described as 9- or 10-year-old boy, Greensboro police said.
Police did not release the boy's name, but said he's facing charges of first-degree arson in the blaze that destroyed several units.
The three-alarm fire started shortly after 10:30 a.m. in a bottom-floor bedroom, fire officials said, and took several hours to extinguish.
The fire caused several millions of dollars in damage, and displaced 20 residents of the complex, police said.
Mike Talley, a graduate student at North Carolina A&T, was one of the displaced residents.
"I came back last night from spring break and drove up and this was the scene. I couldn't get in," he said.
Talley said the fire caused smoke damage to most of his clothing, but most of his belongings, including his books, escaped water damage.
The Red Cross was handling caring for the displaced residents. Talley said the complex is moving him to another unit.
No injuries were reported.
