Off-Duty Mass. Firefighter Helps With Evacuation

    BOSTON -- Newton firefighters were called to a three-alarm fire on Wednesday. The fire started shortly before 5 p.m. Thick, black smoke was seen billowing from the home at 10 Auburndale Ave. Crews were ordered out of the building, and firefighters had to battle the flames from outside the three-story structure. An off-duty firefighter driving by the fire got out of his car and helped residents of the home escape.

    The fire started shortly before 5 p.m. Thick, black smoke was seen billowing from the home at 10 Auburndale Ave.

    Crews were ordered out of the building, and firefighters had to battle the flames from outside the three-story structure.

    An off-duty firefighter driving by the fire got out of his car and helped residents of the home escape.

    There were no injuries reported, and the cause of the fire was under investigation.
