BREVARD, N.C. --
A church in Western North Carolina suffered heavy damage after a fire broke out Wednesday night.
Emergency crews responded to a fully engulfed fire at Dunn's Creek Baptist Church on See Off Mountain Road in Brevard just after 9 p.m.
At least three dozen firefighters were on the scene to put out the flames.
A News 4 photojournalist at the scene reported that the fire appeared under control by 11 p.m.
The roof of the church had visible damage. Late Wednesday night, crews were trying to salvage items from inside, including hymnals and furniture.
There was no immediate word on a cause.
