New Pa. Junior Firefighter Accused of Arson

SOMERSET COUNTY, Pa. -- A newly accepted junior firefighter in Somerset County is facing charges after investigators said he intentionally set a fire in the basement of his home. Pennsylvania State Police were called to Main Street in Boswell early Wednesday morning after firefighters reported a suspicious fire in the basement. After an investigation, troopers charged Kenneth Beeman, 18, with arson and causing or risking a catastrophe.

A newly accepted junior firefighter in Somerset County is facing charges after investigators said he intentionally set a fire in the basement of his home.

Pennsylvania State Police were called to Main Street in Boswell early Wednesday morning after firefighters reported a suspicious fire in the basement.

After an investigation, troopers charged Kenneth Beeman, 18, with arson and causing or risking a catastrophe.

According to the police report, Beeman was recently accepted as a junior firefighter with the Boswell Volunteer Fire Department.

Police said Beeman placed his grandmother and other occupants of the home in danger of serious injury or death.

Beeman was placed in the Somerset County jail on $100,000 bond. A preliminary hearing is scheduled for Jan. 10.
