Wash. Truck Fire Sparks Highway Fires

KIRKLAND, Wash. -- A truck fire on Interstate 405 sparked several small brush fires along the highway in Kirkland, snarling traffic during the morning commute. The truck caught fire on I-405 near 116th Street just before 5:30 a.m. Friday morning. Firefighters quickly put out the fires. Traffic slowed to a crawl on southbound I-405 while the right lane was blocked by the burned truck and fire trucks.

KIRKLAND, Wash. --

A truck fire on Interstate 405 sparked several small brush fires along the highway in Kirkland, snarling traffic during the morning commute.

The truck caught fire on I-405 near 116th Street just before 5:30 a.m. Friday morning.

Firefighters quickly put out the fires.

Traffic slowed to a crawl on southbound I-405 while the right lane was blocked by the burned truck and fire trucks.

The on-ramp from NE 116th Street to southbound I-405 was closed for about an hour while crews cleaned up the mess.

Investigators are still working to determine what caused the truck to catch fire.
