STRAFFORD, N.H. --
A Strafford, N.H. woman was severely burned while trying to save 10 alpacas from a burning barn Sunday morning.
A property owner at a farm at 24 Mohawk Way called 911 at about 6 a.m. to report that the farm was on fire, firefighters said.
A barn that contained 10 alpacas was fully engulfed in flames when they arrived, firefighters said.
Eight female alpacas got out of the barn on their own, but two males were trapped inside. One of the property owners was burned while saving the the trapped animals.
Firefighters said the woman suffered second-degree burns to much of the left side of her body.
Fire officials said the barn burned to the ground.
The woman was taken to a Boston hospital for treatment.
The alpacas are being cared for at Elf's Garden Center in Rochester. Some of them were burned.
There was no word on the cause of the fire.
