PLEASANT PRAIRIE, Wis. --

Two bodies have been found by firefighters inside a burning home in Pleasant Prairie.

The bodies were found around noon Wednesday. Officials say the bodies are a man and a woman, but they have not been identified.

The fire call went out around noon near 44th Avenue and 120th Street.

Neighbor Chris Saimond said he noticed white smoke coming from the house and went over to see if something was wrong.

"When I ran around the house, kind of banging on the doors and yelling their names, there was not a lot that I thought was out of place to the whole situation," Saimond said.

Saimond said as he got close to the front door he could hear the television on but the four dogs that lived there were not barking.

"When I leaned up against the door I smelled the fumes, I could smell the smoke. At that point I dialed 911," Saimond said.

As firefighters entered the brick home they quickly realized something was wrong.

The body of the owner of the home was found in the bedroom, while the body of the woman who lived there was found in the bathroom along with a partially filled gas can.

"We don't really know there was any fire consistent with an accelerant. But when we found gasoline in a can in a bathroom, that raised our suspicion," said Fire Chief Paul Guilbert, Jr.

While animal control workers removed the bodies of the four dogs that died in the fire, police officers and investigators from the Fire Marshall's office combed over the home looking for clues.

"We have a very good idea where the fire started, we just don't know why the fire started," Guilbert said.
