Suspicious Fire Damages La. Football Stadium
LUTCHER, La. --
The state fire marshal said he is investigating a suspicious fire at the Lutcher High School football stadium that caused more than $200,000 in damages.
Fire Marshal Butch Browning said in a statement that a Lutcher police officer discovered the fire around 1 a.m. Monday while on patrol. The officer said he saw smoke and fire coming from the lower level of the home bleachers.
The Lutcher Fire Department responded, and the fire was under control in 20 minutes, Browning said.
The fire damaged several rooms and the attic underneath the stadium seating, Browning said.
Fire marshal inspectors are trying to determine the cause of the fire, and they are also inspecting the structural integrity of the building to make sure it is safe.
The regular football season is over, but Lutcher could possibly have a bid to play a home game in the state playoffs on Nov. 26.
Anyone with information in the case is asked to contact the State Fire Marshal's Office at 225-925-4911.
