Thousands of Birds Die in N.C. Chicken House Fire

YADKIN COUNTY, N.C. -- Two chicken houses off Collins Road caught fire Monday afternoon, killing thousands of birds, Yadkin County fire officials said. Officials said 8,000 chickens that were in one of the houses died, and several thousand more from the other chicken house also perished. One of the chicken houses was entirely destroyed. The second chicken house was severely damaged. At least four fire departments were dispatched to the scene.

YADKIN COUNTY, N.C. --

Two chicken houses off Collins Road caught fire Monday afternoon, killing thousands of birds, Yadkin County fire officials said.

Officials said 8,000 chickens that were in one of the houses died, and several thousand more from the other chicken house also perished.

One of the chicken houses was entirely destroyed. The second chicken house was severely damaged.

At least four fire departments were dispatched to the scene.

There was no initial word on what sparked the fire.

Officials said the owner is insured.
