Mass. Soldier's Home Burns Hours After Returning from Afghanistan

BOSTON -- The home of a soldier who had just returned home from serving in Afghanistan was heavily damaged by fire on Tuesday. The fire started just before 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at 4 Kansas St. in Natick. The occupant of the house, Michael Doe, an Army chief warrant officer, had just returned home from Afghanistan on Monday night. Doe was out to lunch with his family when the fire started.

The home of a soldier who had just returned home from serving in Afghanistan was heavily damaged by fire on Tuesday.

The fire started just before 12:30 p.m. Tuesday at 4 Kansas St. in Natick.

The occupant of the house, Michael Doe, an Army chief warrant officer, had just returned home from Afghanistan on Monday night. Doe was out to lunch with his family when the fire started.

The home is owned by Natick Soldier Systems, near the Natick Army Labs.

One firefighter was taken from the scene in an ambulance to be treated for heat exhaustion. Two dogs were rescued from the fire.

The cause of the fire was not immediately known.
