GREENVILLE, S.C. --

A man who puts fires out for a living found his own house ablaze Friday morning.

Firefighters with the River Falls Fire Department in Greenville County were called to their chief's home. They said by the time they arrived, the house had sustained heavy damage.

Despite the close-to-home loss, firefighters said they are glad no one was injured in the blaze.

"Everyone made it out safely," said River Falls Assistant Chief Kevin Owens. "We had a pretty quick knockdown on (the fire), but unfortunately, we weren't able to save as much as we wanted to save."

Owens said firefighters are working with the insurance company to determine the cause of the blaze.

The house is a total loss.
