OAKLAND PARK, Fla.
--
Investigators returned to a marine dealership Wednesday and tried to determine what sparked an inferno there Tuesday night.
The blaze started around 10 p.m.at Trick Marine, located at 604 East Prospect Road, sending red and orange flames into the sky and blanketing the area with thick smoke.
Loud explosions were heard in the area. The sound brought people from the adjacent neighborhood scrambling into the street.
Residents said they were using garden hoses to fight the fire until the fire trucks arrived.
"It felt like hell," Steve Daise told Local 10.
"The community came together real good," said Adrian Boyd.
Crews arrived quickly, but the damage was already done. Five service bays were destroyed, along with one boat.
Firefighters used a ladder truck to fight the blaze from above. The fire was burning high into the sky at 11p.m. but appeared to be under control about a half-hour later.
Seventy firefighters from nine agencies -- Oakland Park, Pompano Beach, Deerfield Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Davie, Sunrise, Lauderhill, Tamarac and Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue -- battled the flames.
Eighty percent of the building was destroyed, and the remains stood as a charred skeleton in the Wednesday morning sun. The costs of the damage have not been determined.
No injuries were reported.
It is unknown what sparked the blaze. Fire marshals were at the scene Wednesday to determine the cause.
