BOSTON
--
Part of the North Shore Volkswagen dealership on Park Street in Beverly was destroyed early Saturday morning in a two-alarm fire that investigators say was likely arson.
The main building went up in flames at 5:30 a.m.
The fire destroyed nearly a dozen cars inside the showroom and damaged dozens of others, including some that were in for repairs. Damage is estimated to be more than $1 million.
Dennis Britton and his brother Wayne own the dealership that their father started in 1953. Its one of the oldest Volkswagen dealerships in the country.
We have a lot of customers, a lot of employees, said Britton. Theres a lot of things to think about right now.
No injuries were reported.
"There is strong evidence that supports an intentionally set fire," said Deputy Chief Peter OConnor.
Despite the devastation, the Brittons have vowed to rebuild.
I want to be back in business as soon as possible, for my employees and for my customers," said Britton.
