A 25-year-old man was killed and several families were displaced by a fire at the Heritage Place Apartments on Westminster Drive in Franklin Sunday morning.
According to authorities, the fire broke out at around 5:30 a.m. in Building H. When firefighters arrived, the second story of the building was engulfed in flames, and residents were evacuated, officials said.
The apartment where the fire broke out was occupied by five people, investigators said. All got out safely except for a 25-year-old man, who has not yet been identified.
The cause of the fire has not been determined. Firefighters were expected to remain on the scene for several hours to gather evidence.
At least a dozen people were displaced due to damage from the fire, according to Franklin Police. The Red Cross has offered assistance to those residents.
